INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Individual therapy allows us to delve deeper into your identified targeted issues and is usually first recommended before trying group therapy. Individual therapy typically involves a 50-minute, weekly session.

Group therapy

Group therapy serves as the ultimate mirror for our personal experience. Throughout our lives we strive for group connection: with our family system, we were born into a group and throughout our lives continue to search for people and experiences that make us feel connected to others. Group therapy provides the opportunity to experience yourself in relation to others. Behaviors and patterns that might only be discussed in individual therapy are actively experienced in the group setting.

I co-facilitate an ongoing weekly process group for individuals who have a difficult relationship to drugs and alcohol. This group meets every Monday evening for 90-minutes.

ACU-DETOX

Consistent with the spirit of helping people learn to help themselves, I provide acu-detox. Acu-detox is a form of auricular acupuncture that is specifically designed to aid in the treatment of substance use disorders.

Acu-detox is based on a concept in Chinese medicine that there are points representing the entire human body mapped out on the ear's surface (This concept also applies to the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and the tongue). The five points at which the needles are inserted each correspond to major organs and the mental and emotional processes associated with them.

Studies have shown numerous benefits from acu-detox, including the temporary relief of acute and post-acute withdrawal symptoms, reducing cravings, easing stress and anxiety, improving sleep, lessening depression, and helping to alleviate aches and pains. Five single-use sterile needles and/or magnets are placed in each ear and left for anywhere between 30 and 50 minutes. Acu-detox can happen in a group or individual setting.
